Rajat Umrey is an academician, researcher and author whose work brings together management, law and emerging technology. Based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, he currently serves as Assistant Professor at the School of Legal Studies, LNCT University, having developed experience in teaching, student mentoring, academic coordination, research and professional development over the years.

An academic path built on management and technology

Rajat completed his Bachelor of Commerce from Barkatullah University and later pursued an MBA in HR and Marketing from the same university. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Management from Bhabha University, with research interests spanning digital marketing, consumer behaviour, consumer protection, data privacy, artificial intelligence, business law and regulatory compliance.

He began his teaching career at Technocrats Institute of Technology in Bhopal, later joined SAM College of Management and Technology, and in August 2025 joined LNCT University as Assistant Professor — teaching management subjects, mentoring students, supervising projects and internships, and supporting academic planning.

Research at the intersection of law, business and technology

His research covers some of the most relevant issues facing businesses and consumers today, including digital marketing and consumer buying behaviour in Madhya Pradesh, e-commerce and quick commerce, data privacy, digital consumer protection and regulatory compliance — as well as AI-generated deepfake fraud, digital identity manipulation and dark patterns in online platforms. He is the first author of the book Business Management and Legal Frameworks in the Digital Era, and has contributed a book chapter titled Critical Analysis of New Dimensions of Fiscal Federalism in India.

Education becomes more meaningful when management, law and technology are understood together.

Alongside teaching and research, Rajat continues to participate in faculty development programmes covering AI literacy, smart learning, case teaching, Power BI, digital pedagogy and data analysis — reflecting the changing role of educators who must stay connected with new technologies and industry developments.

Why AI-era consumer law research matters now

Research into AI-generated deepfake fraud and digital identity manipulation sits at an unusually active point in Indian regulatory policy. The IT Rules and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act have both been amended and clarified in stages since their introduction, and enforcement mechanisms around synthetic media, consumer data misuse and platform accountability are still being worked out through a mix of rule-making, court rulings and industry self-regulation rather than a single settled framework. Academic research that tracks these gaps in real time — as Rajat's work on digital identity manipulation and dark patterns does — feeds directly into how law schools train the next generation of corporate counsel and compliance officers who will need to advise businesses on rules that keep shifting.

Management schools embedded within law universities, like LNCT's School of Legal Studies, occupy a specific niche in this landscape: they produce graduates who can read both a balance sheet and a statute, a combination increasingly sought by e-commerce, fintech and quick-commerce companies navigating consumer protection and data privacy obligations simultaneously. That dual literacy is likely to become more, not less, valuable as India's regulatory approach to AI and consumer data continues to mature.
